Following academic education, formal qualifications (Chartered Engineer) and experience in Contracting and Consultancy, Chris was a founder of WSP Group at its inception in the mid-1970s. In 1987 he became CEO and led the IPO of WSP onto the Unlisted Securities Market and in 1990 transferred to the Full Market.
He assembled and led a global management team which directed the successful operational and strategic development of the Group worldwide. He led the business through the transition into a wider Canadian ownership where he is now the Chairman.
This journey provided Chris with private company entrepreneurial experience, which then matured into the rigours and opportunities of a public company. Separately he stepped into a non-executive position at Ashtead Group PLC more than 10 years ago and transitioned to Chairmanship in 2008.
Chris has been a Non-Executive Chairman since 2014 of Applus+ following the company’s IPO on the Spanish Stock Exchange (IGBM). With a predominantly UK investor base, Chris brings public company experience to the new Board, which comprises a blend of Spanish and international directors.
Chris was runner-up for the FTSE100 Chairman Award in 2016 by The Sunday Times.
